Background


Albert L. Shumaker was born in Jasper, Alabama, on December 3, 1940, and is the son of Albert G. and Hazel R. Shumaker. He attended public schools in Walker County and graduated from Walker County High School in 1959. He was president of his senior class and Key Club and was active in church, scouts and other community activities.

Education


Mr. Shumaker received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard College (now Samford University) in 1963 and his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in 1965.

Professional History


Mr. Shumaker was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in September of 1965, at which time he began his practice of law with the firm of Burns, Carr and Shumaker in Gadsden and Centre, Alabama. Since 1990, Shumaker has engaged in the solo practice of law in Cherokee County. Representative clients include First Southern State Bank, City of Centre, Northeast Alabama Water, Sewer & Fire Protection District and various other utilities in northeast Alabama. He is a registered agent of Old Republic National Title Insurance Company.

Current Community Involvement


Mr. Shumaker has been active during his career with the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, the Centre Rotary Club, Cherokee County Chapter of American Red Cross, and on the board of the Greater Alabama Boy Scout Council. He is currently serving as a trustee on the Board of Directors of Samford University, and as a trustee on the board of the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama.
